Application of Copper Complexes with Ligand- Centered Radical
Author(s): Surajit Debnath and Ganesh Chandra Paul
Abstract: Redox-active ligands play a vital role for adjusting the reactivity and electronic structure of transition metal complexes. In particular, ligands based on aminophenol moiety have the ability to stabilize radical species through reversible oxidation processes. Here, we describe the synthesis and design of Cu(II) complexes that contain diradical-characteristic redox-active aminophenol ligands. The function of ligand-centered radicals in controlling the magnetic exchange, electronic delocalization, and general stability of these complexes is demonstrated by spectroscopic, magnetic, and computational studies. These systems have potential applications in materials chemistry and catalysis in addition to offering insights into basic aspects of metal–ligand redox non-innocence.
