Author(s): Rajesh Bhagwat Jadhao and Mohd Yusuf
Abstract: Lawsonia inermis L. (henna) is a perennial shrub belonging to the family Lythraceae. Although its leaves have been extensively investigated for the dye compound lawsone, its flowers produce a distinct and aromatic essential oil with potential therapeutic value. Preliminary phytochemical assays provide essential information about the classes of secondary metabolites present in the floral extracts and essential oil. This review explores the findings on the qualitative phytochemical screening of essential oil from L. inermis flowers.
