Abstract: The leaves of the cultivated “broad-leaved” variety of Lippia multiflora and their infusions were evaluated to provide information on their nutritional and antinutritional properties. The results revealed that the leaves of the plant contained significant amounts of phytochemicals (caffeine, catechins, tannins, flavanone and quercetin), proximate compounds (proteins, lipids, crude fibre, ash and moisture) and nutrients (Mg, Na, K, Ca P, Fe, Zn, Mn, and Cu) at varying levels depending on the location of cultivation. These chemical compounds could be responsible for nutritional and therapeutic uses. The proximate and mineral compositions obtained suggest that the leaves and infusions can serve as inexpensive sources of protein and other macro- and micronutrients and could be incorporated into the human diet to meet recommended daily nutritional intakes. The presence of flavanone, caffeine, tannin, catechin and quercetin in infusions suggests that they may have antioxidant effects and be used in the treatment of certain diseases.
