Precision Farming: An approach to farm management using information and technology
Author(s): Gocham Jumbom and Kasinam Doruk
Abstract: Precision farming leverages advanced technologies like GPS, drones, and IoT sensors to enable data-driven decision-making, precise resource allocation, and ultimately, more efficient and sustainable agricultural practices. Precision agriculture is revolutionizing farming by tailoring practices to specific field conditions, optimizing resource use, and minimizing environmental impact, all while boosting productivity and profitability. This targeted approach reduces waste, minimizes environmental pollution, and promotes more efficient use of resources, ultimately contributing to sustainable agriculture and healthier ecosystems. This type of management is commonly known as “Site-Specific Management”. These new production systems, such as precision agriculture, can help farmers optimize water use, reduce waste, and stay competitive in the global market, ensuring sustainable food production for the future. These cutting-edge technologies empower farmers to make data-driven decisions, streamline operations, and maximize efficiency, ultimately leading to improved crop yields, reduced costs, and more sustainable farming practices. By harnessing these innovative technologies, precision agriculture is poised to revolutionize farming, enabling farmers to optimize resources, minimize environmental impact, and improve productivity, ultimately ensuring global food security and sustainability.
