Abstract: The ground water located nearby Sone River is one of the major sources for drinking, irrigation and many other purposes in the rural areas of Rohtas district in Bihar and Sonebhadra district in Uttar Pradesh. Due to presence of fertilizer and cement industry near sone river in Amjhour, Kalyanpur (Rohtas, Bihar), and Dala (Sonebhadra, U. P.) respectively there is a need of studying the ground water quality in these selected areas. Keeping in view the present study was done by taking samples of three different sites during the month of May, 2023 in pre-monsoon, July, 2023 in monsoon and December, 2024 in post-monsoon. Water Quality Index (WQI) calculation has been done for water quality determination with the help of thirteen water parameters like pH (7.29), Turbidity (0.703 NTU), Electrical Conductivity (EC μS/ cm) (1202.33) Total dissolved solid (TDS) (781.33 mg/ L), Total Hardness (TH) (501.77 mg/ L), Calcium ion (Ca2+ ) (233.33 mg/ L), Magnesium ion (Mg+ ) (84.02 mg/ L), Chloride ion (Cl- ) (69.10 mg/ L), alkalinity (421.33 mg/ L), Iron (Fe) (0.344 mg/ L), Nitrate ion (NO3-) (6.66 mg/ L), Sulfate ion (SO42-) (56.66 mg/ L) and Fluoride ion (F-) (0.33 mg/ L). Most of the parameters were within the standard limit provided by WHO, whereas some of them like calcium (233.13 mg/ L), magnesium (84.02 mg/ L), alkalinity (421.33 mg/ L) and EC (1202.33 μS/ cm) were higher than the permissible limit. WQI was found to be 92, which was very poor and unsuitable for drinking. Statistical analysis has also been used to study the correlation of different parameters.
