Abstract: Phule Sugarcane 15012 (MS 17082) is a newly developed, high-yielding, midlate maturing sugarcane variety, bred at the Central Sugarcane Research Station (CSRS), Padegaon, Maharashtra. It originated from a cross between Co 94008 (high sugar recovery) and CoM 0265 (high yielding). The variety has demonstrated exceptional performance across three major planting seasons—Adsali, Preseason, and Suru—yielding up to 164.1 t/ha of cane and 23.7 t/ha of commercial cane sugar (CCS). In multi-location and adaptive trials across Maharashtra and the Peninsular Zone, Phule Sugarcane 15012 consistently outperformed standard checks like Co 86032 in both yield and juice quality. With high sucrose content (20.27%) and CCS (14.39%), along with drought and salinity tolerance, resistance to smut and yellow leaf disease (YLD), and suitability for mechanized harvesting, it emerges as an ideal cultivar for irrigated, fertile soils of Maharashtra. Its performance in ratoon crops further enhances its commercial value, while its non-lodging, erect growth habit makes it suitable for mechanization and beverage (Rasvanti) purposes. It is recommended for large-scale cultivation in Maharashtra.
