A review: Other types of esters used as plasticizers

Author(s): Ioana Stanciu

Abstract: Plasticizers have long been known for their effectiveness in obtaining flexible plastic materials, with wide applications in the automotive industry, in the medical field and in the consumer industry. The concept of "plasticizer" was first introduced at the end of the 9th century, shortly after the development of cellulose nitrate (in 1846), and the first plasticizers used were camphor and castor oil (patented in 1856).
Attempts have been made over time to obtain classes of ester-type compounds that can be used as plasticizers and/or lubricants in the processing of polymers, and in particular polyvinyl chloride, auxiliaries with appropriate properties and which at the same time have a minimal effect on the environment surrounding.
