Influence of drip irrigation on growth and yield of pigeon pea

Author(s): Chaudhari AV, Kale RD and Wankhade SV

Abstract: The field experiment was conducted during kharif season of 2016-2017 at the Experimental Farm of Agronomy at Agriculture Research Station, Badnapur, Jalna (Maharashtra), Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth Parbhani using pegion pea as a test crop to studies on response of pegion pea to drip irrigation. The experiment was laid out on Vertisols with two factors, twelve treatment combination, replicated three times in factorial randomized block design. The treatment consists of T1 (120×30cm - irrigation at 50% Pan Evaporation through drip. T2 (120×30cm irrigation at 75% Pan Evaporation through drip), T3 (120×30cm irrigation at 100% Pan Evaporation through drip), T4 (120×30cm Supplemental irrigation through furrows at 50% flowering), T5 (120×45cm- irrigation at 50% Pan Evaporation through drip), T6 (120×45cm - irrigation at 75% Pan Evaporation through drip),T7 (120×45cm-¬¬irrigation at 100% Pan Evaporation through drip), T8 (120×45cm - Supplemental irrigation through furrows at 50% flowering), T9 (120×60cm - irrigation at 50% Pan Evaporation through drip), T10(120×60cm - irrigation at 75% Pan Evaporation through drip).T11(120×60cm - irrigation at 100% Pan Evaporation through drip), T12 (120×60cm-Supplemental irrigation through furrows at 50%flowering).The results emerged out clearly indicated that various growth parameters like plant height, number of branches, dry matter and seed yield was increased due to application of potassium. It was inferred from the results that amongst irrigation levels, irrigation at 75% Epan through drip showed maximum plant height, mean number of branches, mean total dry matter plant-1followed by irrigation at 100% Epan through drip, irrigation at 50% Epan through drip and irrigation at 50% flowering through furrows, respectively. 120 x 45 cm spacing recorded maximum harvest index, however it was at par with 120 x 30 cm spacing. Amongst irrigation levels, irrigation at 75% Epan through drip recorded maximum harvest index and it was comparable with irrigation at 100% Epan through drip.
