Abstract: A field experiment was carried out at Irrigation Water Management Research Centre, Arabhavi, Karnataka, during Kharif 2023-24 to know the effect of application of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium through fertigation on yield and economics of onion (Allium cepa L.) in shallow black soils. The design of experiment was Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with 10 treatment combinations with different level viz. 100 per cent and 75 per cent of RDF applied through fertigation by use of completely water-soluble fertilizers in different splits as compared to basal application of conventional fertilizer. Results of the experiment revealed that application of 25 per cent of RDF as basal and 75 per cent of recommended dose of N, P and K through fertigation recorded significantly higher yield (37.5 t ha-1), net return (383671 ha-1) and B: C ratio (1.77). The 100% soil application of RDF was recorded highest gain or soil buildup of soil available N (76 kg ha-1) P2O5 (11.7 kg ha-1) and K2O (41.3 kg ha-1) followed by the application of 25 per cent of RDF of NPK as basal and 75 per cent of RDF of NPK through fertigation results in gain or build of N (69.7 kg ha-1) P2O5 (11.0 kg ha-1) and K2O (38.7 kg ha-1).
