Abstract: The class of medicines known as imidazole derivatives has a wide range of potential medical applications. Imidazole is a heterocyclic ring that contains nitrogen; it has two equivalent forms, and any one of the two nitrogen atoms can hold a hydrogen atom. Numerous naturally occurring substances include the imidazole ring, which is also commonly present in essential amino acids. L-histidine and its derivatives have potent pharmacological activities. In living systems, purines have an imidazole ring which further demonstrated for its biological action as antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antifungal, and anticancer as well as within the biological processes of several therapeutic disorders. In order to know about imidazole derivatives, this article reviews the work that has been done on the structure, synthesis, marketed formulations containing imidazole ring and pharmacological activity of imidazole derivatives.
