Author(s): K Vasundhara, GV Lakshmi, G Ramachandra Rao and G Kishore Babu

Abstract: In the present study, compost samples were collected from the Guntur municipal composting site, Andhra Pradesh. The physical and chemical properties of the compost were characterised and its suitability was tested on black gram, green gram and maize crops. The compost was neutral in reaction, rich in nutrients and can be used for soil application. Treatment with 10 t ha-1 of compost was recorded highest germination percentage, shoot length and dry weight in all three crops and FYM treatment was statistically on par with T4 (compost @ 10 t ha-1).
