Abstract: Reforestation and combustion of fossil fuels result in release of large amount of CO2 into the atmosphere, and thus the concentration of atmospheric CO2 has greatly been increasing, especially in the past half century and, as is predicted will be double the concentration of the preindustrial era around the mid – 21st century. Now it was already upto 373 µ mol mol-1 in the year 2002. Increase in atmospheric CO2 concentration has the potential to affect terrestrial ecosystems by influencing plant photosynthesis and productivity. This review is undertaken to know the effect of elevated levels of CO2 on crop growth, yield, nutrient content, nutrient uptake, physiological and biochemical characters.
