Abstract: Release of non-exchangeable K may influence K fertility status. When the cumulative amount of released K was plotted against time, discontinuity in slope was found lead to the multi-reactive nature of K exchange sites. Generally, Elovich, parabolic diffusion and power equation were found satisfactory for modeling of K release in soils. The cumulative K released in soils for CaCl2 and oxalic acid well described by Elovich and power function equations. The constant b of Elovich equation serves as index of non-exchangeable K release rate. The constant b was found highest for Inceptisols and Alfisols, and lowest Entisols and Histosols. The K release pattern was affected by clay content and type, and soil depth. The kinetics of potassium (K+) release in chloritic and kaolinitic soils under N and P treatments showed that initially rapid reaction than slow reaction. There was no difference between released amount from chloritic and kaolinitic soils from all treatments. The K+ released amount found positively correlated with P adsorption capacity for chloritic and kaolinitic soils and negatively with fixation potential for chloritic and kaolinitic soils. the order followed as: NP=P > N=C for chloritic and N=P > NP > C for kaolinitic soils. Also observed that ammonium and P fixation, adsorption capacities control K+ release from soils. This information is very useful for better fertilizer recommendation for the studied soils.
