Abstract: A field experiment was conducted to study the effect of sequential and tank mix application of herbicides against complex weed flora and phytotoxicity in maize on loamy sand texture soil during kharif season of the year 2016-17 and 2017-18 at the AICRP on Weed Management Farm, Anand Agricultural University, Anand, Gujarat. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with four replications. Twelve treatments viz., atrazine 1000 g/ha PE fb IC + HW at 40 DAS, atrazine 1000 g/ha PE fb 2, 4-D (Na salt) 1000 g/ha LPoE, atrazine + pendimethalin (500 + 250 g/ha) PE, atrazine + pendimethalin (500 + 250 g/ha) PE fb IC + HW at 30 DAS, atrazine + halosulfuron methyl (1000 + 75 g/ha) PoE, atrazine + halosulfuron methyl (1000 + 75 g/ha) PoE fb IC + HW at 40 DAS, topramezone + atrazine (25.2 + 500 g/ha) EPoE, topramezone + atrazine (25.2 + 500 g/ha) EPoE fb IC + HW at 40 DAS, tembotrione + atrazine (105 + 250 g/ha) EPoE, tembotrione + atrazine (105 + 250 g/ha) EPoE fb IC + HW at 40 DAS, IC + HW at 20 and 40 DAS and weedy check were studied. The results of the study evidently proved that tank mix application of atrazine 500 g/ha with pendimethalin 250 g/ha pre emergence followed by interculturing + hand weeding at 30 days after sowing or tank mix application topramezone 25.2 g/ha with atrazine 500 g/ha as early post emergence followed interculturing + hand weeding at 40 days after sowing recorded lower weed density, dry weight, WI, WCE and higher grain yield. Application of atrazine alone and tank mix with either pendimethalin or topramezone or tembotrione did not cause any injury except halosulfuron methyl which cause near about 20-30 per cent chlorosis of maize during both the year of extermination.
