Effect of plant growth regulators on flowering, corm and cormel parameters in gladiolus

Author(s): Priyanka R and SS Saravanan

Abstract: An experiment on “Effect of plant growth regulators on flower quality parameters in Gladiolus cv. Summer sunshine” was conducted at Horticulture research Farm, SHUATS, Allahabad during 2018-19. Experiment was conducted by soaking the corms in different plant growth regulators at different concentrations for 24 hr. The treatment comprise of GA3 (50, 100, 150ppm), IAA (50, 100, 150ppm), NAA (50, 100, 150ppm), thiourea (1000, 1500, 2000ppm) and control. GA3@150ppm gave early spike initiation (56.89 days) compared to other treatments. Where as control was recorded late spike initiation (73.21 days). Maximum spike length of (72.62cm), Rachis length(60.56cm), number of florets per spike(22.44) floret size of (15.51cm) spike weight of (134g) and vase life of (14.42 days )was recorded in GA3 @150ppm. where as spike length(59.57cm), rachis length (47.04cm), spike weight (87.85g), number of florets per spike (18.13), floret size (10.19cm) was minimum in IAA @200ppm. Spike yield per plant (1.33), Corm yield of (1.11) per plant and cormel yield of (28.24) are maximum in IAA@200ppm. Maximum Corm weight of (129.16g), cormel weight of (28.08g), was recorded in IAA @200ppm. Where as minimum spike yield of (1.01), corm yield (1.01) and cormel yield per plant of (18.50), and also minimum corm and cormel weight (84.35g), and (18.51g) was recorded in control.
