Economic analysis of production and marketing of Gloriosa superba L. in Tamil Nadu

Abstract: Medicinal plants cultivation is gaining momentum and promoting their commercial cultivation to meet the demand for domestic and export markets is therefore essential. The study was undertaken to analyze economics of Glory Lily (Gloriosa superba L.) cultivation. The study area, Dindigul district was selected by purposive sampling method based on highest area under the selected crop. Based on random sampling method 40 farmers cultivating glory lily were selected and required data collected through employing structured questionnaire. The cost of cultivation of Glory lily per hectare was Rs. 11 lakhs and the net return per hectare was Rs.16 lakhs. In marketing glory lily farmers adopted three different channels and channel I is more advantageous than other two channels. Among the constraint’s farmers faced in marketing was lack of co-ordination among producers to increase their bargaining power.
