Abstract: False smut disease is one of the most devastating diseases of rice in recent years in rice growing states of India. A field experiment was conducted at the research plot of the Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour during the Kharif 2016-17 to evaluate the efficacy of different fungicides for the management of false smut of rice in Bihar. Sabour ardhjal rice variety was used as test variety under natural disease pressure of false smut. This experiment was formulated with nine commercially available fungicides and the two spraying was fixed at booting stage in between 10 days interval. Among nine fungicides tested, spraying of azoxystrobin 18.2% and difenoconazole 11.4% w/w SC @ 1 ml/l followed by propiconazole 25 EC @1.0ml/l showed significantly minimum percentage of infected panicles/m2 as 10.79 and 11.16 and percentage of infected spikelet/panicle as 3.70 and 4.07 respectively in comparison to check. The highest yield was also recorded in treatment propiconazole 25 EC @1.0ml/l followed by azoxystrobin 18.2% and difenoconazole 11.4% w/w SC @ 1 ml/l i.e. 4192 kg/ha and 4043 kg/ha respectively. This study showed that azoxystrobin 18.2% and difenoconazole 11.4% w/w SC @ 1 ml/l or propiconazole 25 EC @1.0ml/ at booting stage of crop growth could be the management of false smut disease of rice in Bihar.
