Effect of different postharvest treatments on physico-chemical characteristics of apple cv. royal delicious during refrigerated storage

Author(s): Sharma Anshu and Rasgotra Nipun

Abstract: Effect of different postharvest treatments viz. 1- Methylcyclopropene (1-MCP), Aloe vera leaf extracts alone and in combination with CaCl2 and waxing was observed on storage quality of Royal Delicious apples during refrigerated storage conditions (2±1°C and at 90-95% relative humidity). Under refrigerated conditions the fruits were analysed at monthly intervals during the 150 day storage period. PLW and starch iodine rating increased with increase in storage duration whereas decline was observed in fruit firmness, titratable acidity and pectin content. TSS, reducing sugars and total sugars contents increased with an increase in storage duration up to 120 days but subsequently a decline was recorded in these constituents during remaining storage period under all treatments.
