Constraints for youth in farming: Suggestions to retain youth in farming

Abstract: A to poor economic condition of farming community they were unable to full fill the requirements of farming business that foster them to take loan from money lenders, friends, relatives, banks etc. Failure of crop due to erratic nature of climate makes them unable to repay their loan that increases pressure of loan repayment on the farmers, financial crises and threat of social life. It increases their nervousness, lower down the confidence and germinates the think of suicide. From the above suggestions given by rural youths it may be concluded that rural youths were expected to organise programmes which attract the youths towards agriculture. Rural youths also expect to provide farm machineries on subsidise rates and also promote custom hiring to lower down the farmers’ dependency on labour. They also want regular guidance on technical aspects and timely forecast on agro climatic situations, they also required infrastructural facilities that make them enable to get sustainable production from their small land holdings. Parents and friends motivation was also focused by them to take positive decisions regarding agriculture as occupation. Most of the youths are also thinking and suggesting their vision for policy makers that agriculture education should starts from the primary schooling that creates the interest in agriculture from childhood and divert them towards adoption of farming as major occupation. The objectives of the study are as follows: 1. To study the constraints of rural youth in adoption of farming as major occupation and their suggestions thereof
