Abstract: The field experiment was conducted during October 2018 at Agricultural College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Madurai, to study the effect of media composition on seed germination, shoot length, root length and vigour index of sesame for transplanting. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with 5 treatments and 4 replications. Results suggests that the media application of T2 - FYM: sand: red earth (2: 1: 1) recorded maximum germination percentage, shoot length, root length and vigour index of sesame. The growth habit of sesame seedlings might be due to better availability of required nutrients through FYM. Further the application of different composition of media one or other may benefit to the seedlings.
