Status of available sulphur in cultivated soils of Sabarkantha district of North Gujarat

Abstract: In order to assess the available sulphur content in soils of Sabarkantha district of North Gujarat, three hundred and thirty two surface soil samples (0-15 cm) were randomly collected from 8 talukas of Sabarkantha district of North Gujarat. All the collected samples were analyzed for available sulphur as per standard procedure. The available S content in soils of Sabarkantha district varied from 5.17 to 55.86 mg kg-1 with a mean value of 17.21 mg kg-1. Out of 332 soil samples of the district, 37.05, 31.02 and 31.93 per cent were found under low, medium and high category for available sulphur, respectively. According to the nutrient index value (NIV), soils of Sabarkantha district were marginal in available sulphur (1.95).
