Synthesis and biological study of Azetidinone derivatives
Author(s): Gaikwad SV, Bhake AB and Bhandarkar SE
Abstract: The synthesis of Azetidinone derivatives was carried out by the synthesis of 2-acetyl-substituted-1-napthol. This compound on treatment with NH2CSNH2 and Br2 yielded 2-(2-amino- 1, 3- thiazol-4-yl) – substituted – naphthalene-1-ol, which on facile condensation with aromatic aldehyde gave Schiffs bases. These on cyclo-condensation reaction with chloroacetyl chloride yields Azetidinone derivatives. The structures of the synthesized compounds have been confirmed by chemical properties, elemental analysis and spectral analysis (IR, 1HNMR). The synthesized compounds were studied for their antimicrobial activity.
