Abstract: The uptake of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potash (L) by sorghum as influenced by soil salt dynamics under sodic soil irrigated with poor quality alkali ground water was studied during kharif 2018 at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Tiruchirappalli, with three Irrigation methods; All furrow (AF), Alternate furrow (ALF) and Check basin (CB) and five Irrigation Water: Cumulative Pan Evaporation (IW: CPE) based irrigation; 0.40, 0.55, 0.70, 0.85 and 1.00. The results revealed that AF, 0.85 IW: CPE and 0.70 IW: CPE ratio had highest NPK uptake of; 100.6, 24.29 and 76.85 kg ha-1, 90.75 and 72.13 kg NK ha-1 and 24.30 kg P ha-1 respectively. The post harvest soil available NPK was lowest in AF and 1.00 IW: CPE ratio. Soil salts Calcium (Ca) and Magnesium (Mg) were highest in ALF (7.90 and 4.41 cmol(+) kg-1) and 0.40 IW: CPE ratio (7.98 and 4.41 cmol(+) kg-1) respectively. The Sodium (Na) and potassium (K) were highest in CB (7.50 and 0.277 cmol(+) kg-1) and 1.00 IW: CPE (7.59 and 0.273 cmol(+) kg-1). The soil salt indicators, pH, Electrical conductivity, and Exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP) were highest in CB (9.33, 0.57 dS m-1 and 39.41 %) and 1.00 IW: CPE ratio (9.33, 0.55 dS m-1 & 40.25 %). It is found that higher quantity of irrigation with poor quality alkali ground water increases the soil Na, pH and ESP in the soil which reduces the uptake of NPK by sorghum.
