Abstract: Study reveals that per farm average investment on overall farm recorded to Rs.381515.5. in cropping pattern paddy covers 29.66 percent to total cropped area and the cropping intensity was 215 per cent shows inverse relation with size of holding. Per hectare cost of cultivation shows positive relation with size of holding, as it was highest of Rs. 58484.13 on medium farms. On all farms, overall per quintal cost of production was found to be Rs. 1025.87 per hectare. Five variables namely seed, irrigation, human labour, manure & fertilizer and plant protection were considered to work-out the resource use efficiency. All of these, four factors had positive role in production of paddy on all size group of farms and one factor (human labour) had negative role in the production of paddy. The value of MVP to factor costs was found both (positive and negative. the positive factor (seed, irrigation, manure & fertilizer and plant protection) indicating that, there is further scope to increase the investment on these factor to realize return more than cost, and negative value indicate that there were no need to invest more on negative valued (human labour) factors. In case of paddy cultivation in selected block, the major constraints were found viz. human labour, financial problem, irregular electricity supply and unavailability of fertilizer. The following suggestions was made viz. ensure more machinery use to avoid labour problem, liquidity of crop loan through KCC and government should ensure proper supply of fertilizer and electricity in peak period.
