Abstract: A correlation study on coconut seed nut and seedling characters was undertaken in a set of thirty accessions of diverse geographical origin, and including both tall and dwarf accessions, in order to understand the relationship among the nuts and seedlings growth characters and impact of characters relationship on the seedling vigour. Both year mean data of the seed and seedling characters analyzed by the Pearson correlation coefficient method. Result showed that relationship level between the days to germination and seed weight (0.27) and seed length (0.25) correlated positively at significant but weak correlation but all growth characters of seedling at the age of 6th, 9th and 12th month was found to be negatively correlated at significant level. So seed selection is not advisable at the nursery purpose in the coconut. Among the seedling characters collar girth (six, nine and twelve month’s age) which is an important criterion in seedling selection was found to be positively correlated with all other characters indicating its relevance in seedling selection and to get better yielding coconut palms in future.
