Growth and instability of agro-commodities production of Maharashtra

Abstract: The present study is an attempt to examine the growth and instability in food grains Production of Maharashtra for the period ranging from 1990-1991 to 2012-2013 and subdivided into Period I (1990-1991 to 1999-2000), Period II (2000-2001 to 2012-2013). The results revealed that the Wheat, Tur, Gram area, production, and productivity increases significantly. Area of Tur commodity most stable during study period and soybean most unstable commodity. Coefficent of variation of production is lowest (26.27 percent) for Tur and highest for soybean (71.35 percent).Coefficient of variation of productivity for Groundnut show less variation 11.24 percent and higher 27.17 percent Moong commodity. Smaller variability in production and productivity was observed in period II than period I.
