Abstract: In vivo studies on Zamioculcas zamiifolia Engl. (ZZ) were carried out to develop a protocol for rapid multiplication using propagules (a) whole leaflet with petiolule (b) apical half of leaflet (c) Basal half of leaflet (d) two leaflets with rachis (e) single Leaflet with rachis (f) petiole sections; and six substrates (a) sand (b) soil (c) coir pith (d) vermicompost (e) vermiculite (f) soilrite and (g) sphagnum moss. Among the propagules, two leaflets with rachis was found to be the best, with early rhizome initiation, larger rhizomes and more roots. However, more rhizomes formed when upper half of the leaves were used as propagule. Among the substrates, sphagnum moss supported early rhizome initiation, while, larger rhizomes were produced in vermicompost as well as coir pith substrates. More roots with maximum root length formed in sphagnum moss substrae. This study indicated that enhanced multiplication of ZZ can be achieved by using two leaflets with rachis as propagules and vermicompost as substrate.
