Abstract: A field experiment was conducted during kharif 2017 and 2018 at ICAR-Indian Institute of Rice Research, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad to study the “Performance of different nitrogen management practices on nitrogen uptake of rice under different establishment methodsâ€. The experiment was laid out in split plot design with two establishment methods [Normal transplanting (M1) and mechanized system of rice intensification (M2)] in main plots and six nitrogen management practices [N1- Nutrient Expert based recommendation of nitrogen with Neem coated urea, N2- Nutrient Expert based recommendation of nitrogen with Neem coated urea (75%) + vermicompost (25%), N3- Recommended dose of nitrogen with Neem coated urea, N4- Recommended dose of nitrogen with Neem coated urea (75%) + vermicompost (25%), N5- N omission, N6- Absolute control (No N, P and K fertilizer application)] in sub-plots with three replications. There was no significant difference in grain, straw and total (grain + straw) nitrogen uptake due to establishment methods but comparatively higher values of grain, straw and total (grain + straw) nitrogen uptake recorded under mechanized SRI (M2) as compared to normal transplanting (M1). The per cent increase in mean grain, straw and total nitrogen uptake in mechanized SRI (M2) were 10.44, 10.45 and 10.44% over normal transplanting (M1), respectively. Application of nitrogen as per recommendation of Nutrient Expert with Neem coated urea (75%) + vermicompost (25%) recorded significantly higher mean grain, straw and total nitrogen uptake (91.24, 42.89 and 134.13 kg ha-1, respectively) as compared to absolute control (N6) (31.39, 15.96 and 47.35 kg ha-1, respectively) and nitrogen omission (N5) (37.17, 18.64 and 55.80 kg ha-1, respectively) and it was found on par with other nitrogen management practices (N1, N3 and N4) during both the years of study.
