Abstract: Grain discolouration is an early indication of poor quality seeds associated with microorganisms. The present study was conducted in the Department of Plant Pathology and Agricultural College farm, Bapatla. Presence of pathogenic principle in the cell free culture filtrates of Curvularia sp., Bipolaris sp. and Alternaria sp. individually and in combinations during panicle initiation stage of crop has resulted in demarcating effect by reducing the panicle length by 9.91% (19.10 cm), number of grains by 27.83% (92.62 mean number) but significantly increased the number of discoloured grain (45.14) by nearly 3.98 times the unsprayed check (11.33). The experiments clearly revealed that all the test fungi even in their physical absence produced certain extracellular principle that could influence the plant characters, besides grain deterioration, resulting in glume discolouration.
