Abstract: Forty mulberry accessions along with check variety V1 were evaluated under field conditions at Forest College and Research Institute, Mettupalayam, Tamil Nadu for their propagation parameters, like survival, shoot growth and rooting behavior. Results indicated that, survival rate was the highest of 85 per cent in MI-0763; number of leaves the highest in accession MI-0349 (28); leaf length the highest in accession MI-0536 (13.11 cm) and leaf breadth the highest in MI-0425 (10.02 cm). Mulberry accession MI-0718 recorded the highest shoot length of 88.23 cm and the shortest shoot length of 12.66 cm was recorded in MI-0034 Numbers of roots / sapling was found to be the highest in MI-0543 (12.50). Root fresh weight of 15.30 g and dry weight of 5.81 g was the maximum in MI-0349. The longest root length of 25.60 cm was observed in MI-0678. Root volume was significantly high in MI-0349 (10.44 ml) when compared to other varieties. Based on root fresh weight, dry weight and root volume MI-0349 was found promising in terms of rooting behavior. Fifty percent survival and above among the mulberry accessions indicated that twenty four accessions viz., MI-0017, MI-0034, MI-0349, MI-0395, MI-0425, MI-0490, MI- 0497, MI-0535, MI-0536, MI-0543, MI-0558,MI-0613, MI-0615,MI-0651, MI-0652, MI-0658, MI-0663, MI-0677, MI-0685, MI-0686, MI-0718, MI-0763, MI-0768, MI-0845 and V-1(check variety) were found to have potential for growth and development under field conditions and could be utilized in breeding programme.
