Abstract: Correlation studies revealed that plant height, ear girth, ear length, number of kernel rows rep ear, number of kernels per row, shelling percentage, crude protein, tryptophan and lysine contents recorded significantly positive correlations with grain yield. Path coefficient analysis revealed that number of kernels per row, shelling percentage and 100-kernel weight exhibited the highest positive direct effects at both the genotypic and phenotypic levels on grain yield and hence these traits play an important role in generating the high yielding genotypes in the future breeding programmes.
