Abstract: The present study entitled "Effect of spacing and pruning on growth and quality of cucumber under net house conditions" was carried at University Department of Horticulture, Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola during the year 2010-11 and 2011-12. The experiment was laid out with cv. Gypsy in Factorial Randomised Block Design with three spacings, S?(60 cm × 30 cm), S2(60 cm × 45 cm) and S3(60 cm × 60 cm) and four levels of pruning P1(Unpruned), P2(Pruning all primary branches allowing single stem), P3(Pruning after first node), P4(Pruning after second node) and replicated three times with twelve treatment combinations under 50% aluminate shade net. The results of this investigation revealed that, the maximum vegetative growth in terms of vine length and leaf area was recorded under closer (S?) and wider spacing (S3) treatments, respectively than unpruned (P?) treatment. Whereas, wider spacing (S3) for vine length and closer spacing (S?) for leaf area with vine pruning after second node (P4) recorded minimum values. The fruit quality parameters viz., diameter of fruit and fruit volume were recorded significantly maximum in the wider spacing treatment (S3) with pruned after second node (P4) while, closer spacing treatment (S1) and unpruned (P1) recorded minimum values in this respect. The length of fruit was maximum in closer spacing (S1) with pruned after second node (P4) while, wider spacing treatment (S3) and unpruned (P1) recorded minimum values.
