Green synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles using Tulasi leaf extracts: A comparative study of dry and wet leaf extracts

Author(s): DSVJP Koteswari M and C Rajeswari

Abstract: Green synthesis of metals nanoparticles with the help of plant extracts has become a matter of manifold interest because it is simple, friendly to the environment and cost-efficient. The ZnNPs were synthesized through green chemistry routes wherein the aqueous extract of the Ocimum tenuiflorum (which is commonly referred to as Tulasi) leaves were utilized in the synthesis of zinc nanoparticles. The extracts used were of two types, namely; fresh (wet) leaves extracts and dried leaves extracts. Synthesis was performed in controlled conditions and similarity of the yield of ZnNPs was analyzed. Physical state of the leaf material was also found to have a bearing on the yield produced. The paper contains a comparative study of ZnNP yield and explanations of probable causes of noted differences.
