Production and profitability of beetroot (Beta vulgaris l.) Cultivars to date of planting and spacing under north Gujarat conditions

Abstract: Research work was carried out at Horticultural Instructional Farm of Department of Horticulture, C.P. College of Agriculture, Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University (SDAU), Sardarkrushinagar, Gujarat to determine the growth, yield and profit of beetroot cultivars as influenced by different date of planting and spacing. The study was conducted with three date of planting of beet root planting dates viz., 15th October, 30th October, 15th November at three spacing i.e., 15 cm x 15 cm (S1), 30 cm x 15 cm (S2) and 30 cm x 30 cm (S3) on yield and quality parameters of two beet root cultivar viz., Crimson Globe (C1) and Detroit Dark Red (C2). All the marketable yield contributing characters were the highest to the plants found with 30th October date of planting at the spacing of 30 cm x 15 cm with Crimson Globe (C1) and the lowest on 15th October at the spacing of 15 cm x 15 cm with Detroit Dark Red (C2). Maximum gross yield (44.83 tha-1) was found in P2S1C1 and the minimum (15.33 tha-1) was in P1S3C2. The maximum (31.74 tha-1) and the minimum (7.48 t ha-1) marketable yield were also found in the treatment of P2S2C1 and P1S1C2. The highest (6.23) Benefit: Cost Ratio (BCR) was observed in P2S2C1 and the lowest (1.45) was in P1S1C2.
