Abstract: The present investigation entitled “Studies on physical and chemical characteristics of soil under pomegranate (Punica granatum) orchads of Latur district” was carried on 2014-2015.For this purpose collected representative soil sample from 50 orchards were analyzed for different parameters using standard procedure. The soils of pomegranate orchards were neutral to alkaline in reaction and electrical conductivity was in safe limit for the crop growth. These soils were highly calcareos in nature and low to medium in organic carbon. The bulk density and CEC of pomegranate orchard soils were varied from 1.01 to 1.85 g/cc and 30.92 to 60.70 cmol kg-1 with mean values of 1.36 g/cc and 48.72 cmol kg-1 reapectively. The N, P and K, content were ranged from 100.03 to 250.88, 10.81 to 31.78 and 119.16 to 998.36 kg ha-1 with mean values 156.85, 19.35 and 602.84 kg ha-1 respectively. The exchangeable calcium and magnesium were in sufficient quantity. The exchangeable Na++ and K+ were varied from 0.61 to 1.63 and 0.17 to 0.90 cmol (p+) kg-1 with mean value 1.18 and 0.50 cmol (p+) kg-1, respectively. These soils were low to medium in available Fe and Zn whereas, high in Mn and Cu content.
