Inhibition of aluminium corrosion by Commelina diffusa leaf extract in 2 M HCl solution

Abstract:
The effect of Commelina diffusa leaf extract on the corrosion of aluminium in 2 M HCl solution was studied using weight loss, thermometric and hydrogen evolution methods. Commelina diffusa leaf extract appreciably inhibited the corrosion of aluminium in HCl solution. The inhibition efficiency increased with increase in extract concentration and temperature. The experimental data conformed to the modified Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The spontaneity of the adsorption process was revealed by the negative values ofstandard free energy obtained. Chemisorption process has been proposed for the adsorption of Commelina diffusa leaf extract onto aluminium surface.
