Abstract: Application of organic manures enhance the bioactive principal of Ashwagandha. Keeping in view, an experiment was conducted at the farm of ICAR - Directorate of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Research, Anand to study influence of organic management on withanolides contents in Ashwagandha {Withania somnifera (Linn.) Dunal}. The experiment was laid out in split plot design in three replications. The experimental treatment comprised of different organic treatments as a main plot and four different biofertilizers treatments as a sub plot. In light of the results obtained from this investigation, it is indicated that among organics the application of castor cake @ 2.5 t ha-1 and in case of biofertilizer, treatment biofertilizer (Azotobactor + PSB) as a seed treatment + Jivamrut (3 Spray at 25, 50 and 75 DAS) to kharif Ashwagandha (cv. Jawahar ashgandh-20), produced higher withaferin-A, 12-Deoxy withastramanolide, withanolide –A, total withanolide and leaf withaferin-A over rest of treatments. 12-Deoxy withastramanolide showed positive and significant correlation with root girth. The withanolide-A and number of branches @ 60, 100 DAS and at harvest and root girth exhibited significant positive correlation. Leaf withaferin-A had highly significant and positive correlation with fresh root wt. per plot. Total withanolide content may be predicted by using mineral N, available S, alkaline phosphatase activity, fluorescein diacetase activity, EC, root length, fresh root yield, dry root yield and number of branches @ 60 DAS.
