Abstract: Oxygen dissolved in water/ Dissolved oxygen is the amount of gaseous oxygen (O2) dissolved in the water. It is often referred to as DO, is a very important parameter of water quality and is an index of physical and biological processes going on in surface water and groundwater. Dissolved oxygen is considered to be an important limiting factor. It is subjected to greater fluctuations unlike the oxygen of terrestrial medium. Thus, dissolved oxygen content is a variable abiotic factor of aquatic medium. Dissolved oxygen content varies in the same water sample at different temperatures. Oxygen dissolves easier in cooler water than warmer water. Thus, dissolved oxygen content is high at low temperature and low at higher temperature due to evaporation of water and freed into the atmosphere. In the present study, monthly average atmospheric temperature was also recorded in all the five talukas of District. The compared results showed that dissolved oxygen content varies from source to source and season to season.
