Abstract: A series of 3-amino-1(phenyl) benzo[f]quinoline-3-carbonitrile derivatives were synthesized by one pot Multi Component Reactions (MCRs) with different aromatic aldehyde, 2-Napthylamine and malononitrile using iodine and l-proline as catalyst. The main advantages for present high efficient method are short reaction time and higher yield. All of the synthesized compounds were characterized by FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, Mass spectroscopy. Antibacterial and antifungal potential of the synthesized derivatives was studied against various bacterial and fungal strains respectively. Few derivatives were found to exhibit good antimicrobial activity.
