Abstract: Nickel (II) complexes of the Schiff base ligand 2,3-(diimino-4'-antipyrinyl)butane (BDAP) have been synthesized and the characterization were done by elemental analysis, electrical conductance in non-aqueous solvents, infrared and electronic spectra as well as thermogravimetry. An octahedral geometry around the Nickel (II) ion in all the complexes have been suggested by electronic spectra and magnetic moment data. The above observations were confirmed by thermogravimetric analysis. Biological screening analyses of the ligand and the complexes reveal that the metal complexes show significantly higher activity than the ligand against microorganisms. The structure activity analysis of the complexes shows that, nitrate complexes have highest activity against tested bacteria and perchlorate complexes have highest activity against fungus.
