Abstract: Purification of the ethyl acetate fraction from the stem bark of Anthostema madagascariense(Euphorbiaceae) resulted in the isolation of triterpene namely 3-acetoxy-olean-9(11)-en-28- oic acid and a sterol namely Stigmasterol. The structures of the two products isolated compounds were characterized on the basis of extensive spectral data NMR (1D and 2D) and in the comparison with the literature data. The compounds are reported for the first time from this plant.
