Review on waste to energy potential in India

Author(s): Mehtab Singh Chouhan, Sanjay Verma, Sarita Sharma, Niraj Metha

Abstract: India is one of the most rapidly developing countries in the world. The environmental benefits of waste tornenergy, as an alternative to disposing of waste in landfills, are clear and compelling. Waste to energyrngenerates clean, reliable energy from a renewable fuel source, thus reducing dependence on fossil fuels, rnthe combustion of which is a major contributor to greenhouse gases emissions. Currently India dependsrnmainly upon fossil fuels and thus has to pay a huge bill at the end of every contractual period. India holdsrna huge potential for such non-conventional sources of energy.
